Akron Youth Mentorship had a fantastic summer!!

We had a very busy and exciting summer! 62 of our mentees took advantage of opportunities to attend various camps in the area! They were able to attend camps offering a variety of special experiences - visual arts, golf, Bible learning, swimming and performing arts to name a few. Our mentees got to do it all! Specifically, they were able to attend Camp Carl, Camp Burton, Vacation Bible School, The Arts camp, YEPAW, First Tee, Camp "What If, and many small group activities with their mentors.

 

Many of these experiences were possible through some of our amazing partners such as The Vincent House, South Street Ministries, First Tee, and TomTod. A special thanks to all the donors that also helped to provide scholarships for our youth to have these experiences! Through all our summer opportunities, mentees were able to have once-in-a-lifetime adventures, mature in their decision-making and self-leadership skills, and continue to grow in their relationship with Jesus. 

 

Through Camp Burton’s experience, a mentor provided an opportunity for each mentee to be a leader for a day of camp, being the Cabin Captain. Through this leadership opportunity one mentee stood out from the rest, taking his leadership role of Cabin Captain seriously. A mentee who usually pushes boundaries, points a finger of blame to someone else, and often gives excuses was now taking full responsibility for his decisions and encouraging the rest of the cabin to do the same. Because of this opportunity at camp, this mentee grew in his character and in his leadership skills not only of himself but of his peers as well. 

 

We invite you to keep Akron youth and our ministry in your prayers as we roll into the new school year and prepare for our own programming to kick-start in a couple of weeks. We can't wait to see what God has in store for this year and we're excited for you to walk alongside us in our mission!
